Local Volunteer Advisory Committee (LVAC)
The Self-Determination Local Volunteer Advisory Committee (LVAC) oversees the Self-Determination Program. The committee reviews how the program is being developed and run, makes sure it follows Self-Determination principles and legal requirements, and offers recommendations for improvement. Its role is to monitor progress—not to do the work—and to help share best practices and training resources.
By law, LVAC members include consumers, family members, the regional center’s Clients’ Rights Advocate, and other advocates and community leaders. The committee reflects the cultural diversity and geographic makeup of Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC) catchment area.
Half of the members are appointed by VMRC and half by the State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD). Members may serve up to two-year terms.
