Employment First
Supporting Inclusive Employment Opportunities for People with Developmental Disabilities
At Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC), we empower and support individuals with developmental disabilities to find and keep meaningful jobs in inclusive workplaces. In line with California’s Employment First Policy, Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE), working alongside people with and without disabilities, is the first and preferred choice for every working-aged person we support.
VMRC helps individuals reach their employment goals through person-centered planning, personalized support, and collaboration with local employers and community partners.
Employment First Policy
California’s Employment First Policy, established under Welfare and Institutions Code Section 4869, makes competitive integrated employment the top priority and preferred outcome for working-age individuals with developmental disabilities.
This means:
- Working in inclusive community settings alongside people without disabilities
- Earning minimum wage or higher
- Having opportunities for career growth and advancement
- Receiving the support and services needed to find and maintain meaningful employment
VMRC ensures that Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) is explored and supported as the first option for all working-aged individuals we serve.
